About the role and team

The Anthony Collins Funding team are looking to appoint a banking and finance associate to join their hugely successful and national team based in Birmingham.

The market-leading Funding team, which is highly rated by Chambers and Legal 500 and are seen as thought leaders in various sectors, advise on the financings of housing associations, social-impact investors and banks, social enterprises, charities, health and social care entities, local authorities, as well as private sector bodies. The current team consists of 4 specialist social-impact funding lawyers (including a partner) and 1 legal assistant. 

You will be advising on a range of finance matters work such as complex and innovative funding and finance-related projects including bonds often exceeding £100M, private placements, revolving credit facilities, development finance and joint ventures. The nature and complexity of the transactions being such that you will also often work with expert colleagues across the firm to ensure the project is delivered seamlessly for the client.  

In 2024, the Funding Team supported housing associations on over £1.2B of new loan arrangements, including amendments, new agreements, aggregator and local authority loans, capital market deals across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

 

About the candidate

You should have excellent personal organisation and time management skills, demonstrable project- and client-management skills and the ability to build strong relationships of trust and confidence with peers and with clients. You will be expected to deliver funding projects in your own name (with support from a more senior colleagues where appropriate), to work with and supervise tasks carried out by junior solicitors, trainees and legal assistants.

Ideally the candidate will have the following experience:

  • Experience of banking and finance law, gained post-qualification or during your training contract
  • Ability to build strong rapport with a variety of ‘clients’, both external and internal, and inspire and hold their confidence
  • Ability to collaborate and work as part of a high performing team, taking ownership of work assigned
  • Ability and desire to develop technical legal skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong self-motivation and proactivity, and confident to use your own initiative where appropriate to deliver consistently high-quality work that meets the client’s needs.
