Legal Assistant – Childcare Team 
Location: Birmingham 

We are Anthony Collins Solicitors – a values-driven law firm with a strong reputation for making a real difference in people’s lives. We’re currently looking for a committed and enthusiastic Legal Assistant to join our Childcare Team in Birmingham. 

Our team represents children and adults in public law care proceedings brought by Local Authorities, as well as children who require separate representation in private law disputes between parents. We’re proud to be a leading and well-established firm in this specialist area, and as our team continues to grow, we’re excited to welcome someone new into this rewarding role. 

What you’ll be doing: 
You’ll work closely with our experienced solicitors and legal professionals, supporting them across a range of complex and meaningful cases. This is a fantastic opportunity to build your legal career in a supportive environment, while making a genuine impact through your work. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Preparing and supporting legal casework 

  • Attending client meetings, conferences, and court hearings, and taking detailed notes 

  • Drafting standard legal documents and correspondence 

  • Reviewing and analysing evidence 

  • Carrying out legal research 

  • Managing correspondence, phone calls and emails professionally 

  • Recording time accurately using our firm’s time-recording system 

  • Supporting administrative tasks and ensuring compliance with Lexcel and Legal Aid Agency standards (we’ll provide training where needed) 

  • Preparing and submitting Legal Aid applications and handling funding queries 

  • Attending in-house training to support your professional development (including CPD for those studying CILEX) 

  • Helping to prepare for and attend business development events 

  • Taking on other reasonable tasks to support the team 


About the candidate

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
 
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to manage a busy and varied workload 

  • Excellent organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail 

  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal 

  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to integrate and work well as part of a team 

  • A commitment to delivering exceptional client care and maintaining high professional standards 

  • Previous experience in childcare proceedings, with a solid understanding of public and private law processes Desired but not essential)
