About the role and team

We are seeking a Paralegal to help with the delivery of work in our Social Housing and Local Government Team, within our Property department. The team carries out a wide variety of work, both complex and routine, for Housing Association and Local Government clients, and has a strong pipeline of instructions.

Supporting a number of fee earners in the team, and reporting to a lawyer , this role will involve the completion of transfers and leases of individual and multiple properties , liaising with clients and lawyers in the team to ensure the proper and timely completion of acquisitions ,  preparation and submission of applications to Land Registry  either directly or via infotrack, dealing with any requisitions as requested by the Land Registry , preparing and submitting SDLT returns and keeping accurate records on our internal logs of both the LR applications and SDLT returns. The successful candidate will be trained to understand and be self sufficient in dealing with acquisitions of individual and multiple properties and this is a great starting point for practice as a property lawyer . There may also be scope for other more varied work such as Deeds of Grant of Easement , Wayleaves and Infrastructure Agreements .

This will include the preparation of engrossments, arranging pre-completion searches, preparing cheque and telegraphic transfer requisitions, arranging for funds to be remitted as instructed, diarising key dates (priority period expiry, SDLT submission deadlines) and scanning and photocopying as required.

There may also be a requirement to support the team with other admin tasks on an ad-hoc basis, this may include:

  • Sending completed deeds away
  • updating clients
  • closing files
  • liaising with the plot conveyancing team as needed , particularly where they may be dealing with sales ahead of registrations being completed.

  • Some property experience would be an advantage but not essential as we are able to provide on the job training.
