About the role and team

Anthony Collins Solicitors is a distinct values-led provider of legal services in our chosen sectors which include local government, housing, health and social care, and education (academies and MATs).  In local government, where we already have a strong client base, our aim is to be the leading advisors to the sector, partnering with councils, other organisations and policy makers to build a stronger more connected society.

Councils have changed.  Nowadays, working with local government requires a high degree of commerciality and innovative thinking. Councils do big and exciting projects, set up and operate joint ventures and need legal advice which is right for that landscape.  They require their lawyers to go beyond what the law is on the page, but who add real value by their understanding of the complexities of local government law and the landscape within which councils operate; and who understand that councils need fast, accurate and commercially driven advice about the deals they are entering into.

We are looking to recruit a 0 – 2 years PQE property lawyer to strengthen our existing Local Government Real Estate team. This role will be located at our Birmingham office.

The role will require you to:-

  • Support on complex development projects as well as work alongside the Partner and senior lawyers
  • Undertake routine commercial property work
  • Supervise junior lawyers and legal assistants
  • Build relationships with clients
  • Take an active role in business development both internally and externally - attending conferences, supporting with the delivery  of seminars and training, and supporting with responding to tenders.
  • Navigate the political dimension of working with councils.
  • Be very strong commercially.
  • play a key role in our Local Government Real Estate practice, and will work closely with, and be an integral part of, the Local Government team across the firm.
About the candidate

Ideally the candidate should:

  • Have experience in real estate and working with local government clients (although the latter is not essential).
  • Have gained experience in a city firm or large regional / national practice.
  • Have a strong academic background and an outgoing personality.
  • Be a team player with a strong client focussed approach.
  • Have excellent communication and organisational skills.
