Our Legal 500 rated Projects team is seeking to expand and we are currently looking to recruit a Construction/Projects Disputes Lawyer. The ideal candidate will have 3+ yrs PQE, and relevant experience to assist the team in delivering a broad range of advice relating to construction/projects disputes in matters across our sectors, including for housing, local government, social business and charity clients. It would also be an advantage for the successful candidate to have PFI and some public procurement experience but this is not essential.
If you have good experience of advising on, managing and drafting documents for construction disputes and are ready to apply your skills to the sectors we work in, we would love to hear from you.
We have a broad range and large number of dispute instructions both short term and for longer term which will require additional long-term resource, in addition to frequent new instructions. Specifically, we have a long running PFI waste dispute which requires additional immediate support and fire safety and other defect-related construction dispute matters that would benefit from additional resource. Please look over our website to get a feel for our core sectorsand for information about our exciting B Corp accreditation.
The sectors we work in often involve an overlap between construction and procurement law. This role offers a unique opportunity to become skilled in public procurement law disputes, if desired. If not, you will be fully supported by our wider project teams as necessary.
We often act for social housing, care sector or charities clients (often on JCT terms) or act on NEC-based contracts on various of highway and engineering disputes for our local authority clients.
About the Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience of construction work and also an interest to work within our specialist sectors. Ideally, the candidate should have experience of the ‘whole life’ of disputes, including initial advisory work right through to settlement and/or judgment. The candidate will mainly focus on contentious work but there shall be opportunities to support across the team in a non-contentious advisory capacity (e.g. pre-formal dispute and working with our non-contentious commercial/contract lawyers to advise clients on approaching issues and/or advising on the interpretation of pre-existing contracts – drafting contractual documents would sit with our non-contentious team), as and when the need arises and if the candidate has a desire to do so. Experience of ADR, including adjudication and mediation would be beneficial.
We would like to recruit a team member at Associate level or above, so that you are able to progress matters independently where appropriate, work as part of a team on larger and more complex matters and also help with supervising our wonderful team of junior lawyers. This is a role you really can make your own and which offers excellent prospects for career progression.
For much of our work we are acting for the client under a construction / engineering contract. Whilst many of our clients are experienced purchasers of construction work, equally many request back-to-basics training or general support regarding the contracting processes. It would be helpful if applicants were keen to assist with this work and enjoy explaining complex technical issues in a way that is accessible to non-construction professionals.
