About the role and team
Anthony Collins Solicitors are currently recruiting a Solicitor to join our PI and Clinical Negligence team.
 

The main responsibility of the role will be to have primary conduct of personal injury and clinical negligence claims on behalf of injured Claimants. Experience in claims against public authorities (including cases arising from abuse) and community care would be an advantage.

The role will also include working alongside senior colleagues on larger and more complex cases, as well as business development responsibilities and a degree of supervision of others.

The team works closely with charity partners and support organisations.

Some of our recent work includes securing multi-million pound settlements in birth injury claims, representing clients at inquests followed by successful claims on behalf of the estate and dependants and representing brain injured children in pedestrian road traffic claims.

Key Tasks

  • Take initial client instructions.
  • Analyse issues, evidence and advise client on solution in the context of the client’s broad needs to achieve desired result.
  • Advise on funding options and produce funding and client care documentation.
  • Draft appropriate letters and other documentation.
  • Prepare court papers.
  • Interviewing witnesses and taking statements.
  • Instructing barristers and attending conferences.
  • Attending court hearings and, where appropriate, conducting court advocacy.
  • Negotiate with solicitors representing opposing party.
  • Maintain ongoing discourse with client and build relationship.
  • Manage client file, subject to supervision and file reviews.
  • Time record appropriately.
  • Working as a team member, and with involvement in cross organisational projects, you should develop relationships across the firm that facilitate smooth communication and management of day to day client matters and larger scale projects.
  • Ensure effective completion of administrative tasks particularly maintaining accurate, detailed client files and completion of Law Society and other required documentation.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and understanding through training, ensuring completion of the Law Society CPD requirements.
  • Represent the practice in the wider legal/business sphere and seek to identify and build new client relationships.
  • Feedback to secretarial coordinator in relation to secretarial support, especially where a secretary is allocated to specifically support you.
  • Keep up to date on the work conducted by other legal departments to ensure accurate cross selling opportunities.

 

In the event of line management of a colleague;

  • Initial responsibility for sickness absence management in accordance with the organisation policy.
  • Initial responsibility for performance management in accordance with the organisation strategy.
  • Conduct monthly supervision, 6 monthly and annual appraisals, identify training needs and, with the Department Manager, make provision for this training.
  • Meet regularly with relevant Department Managers to pro actively address issues at the earliest opportunity.
About the candidate
We are looking for a candidate who has an established practice in both Claimant personal injury and clinical negligence.  Alternatively, a candidate who has excellent experience in one of the practice areas and can demonstrate an ability to learn quickly in order to conduct both personal injury and clinical negligence cases.
 
The candidate will be ideally 2 to 5 years PQE, or be able to demonstrate a comparable level of experience and knowledge.  
 
You will have a proven track record in business development, including seeking out new opportunities, establishing new initiatives and working alongside others to support only business development work.
 
The candidate will be excellent at working in a team, along side colleagues at all levels of seniority, and be able to supervise junior colleagues.
 
You will be diligent in time recording, financial hygiene and able to balance demanding priorities, whilst having the skills to use an electronic case file system, time recording, dictating and be very capable with computer systems.
